Blessings: The 10 Best Chance the Rapper Songs

With the Chicago rapper fresh off an appearance at the Boston Calling music festival I got to thinking what songs that feature Chano are the best? Between the three mixtapes, The Social Experiment, various spots on other artists' tracks, and the occasional leak these are the best songs that the three-time Grammy winner has been a part of. (This article was written in May 2017 and is a repost from my old blog)

10. Same Drugs- Coloring Book

Same Drugs is unlike any other Chance the Rapper songs, as it offers a clear delicacy, but is not any less brilliant. The stripped down ballad is filled with emotion and it is very apparent that it depicts a very personal relationship of Chance's that has clearly undergone some significant changes.

9. May I Have This Dance (Remix)- Francis and the Lights

Chance's latest masterpiece comes via a feature on the remix of a Francis and the Lights 2016 heartfelt and upbeat apology. The biggest reason to include this song honestly, is the epic dancing in the recently released in the music video by Chance and Francis Farewell Starlite. As far as the verse offered, you can't help but sing along and want to two step along.

8. No Problem- Coloring Book featuring Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz

It is impossible to avoid mentioning No Problem as it is arguably the biggest mainstream hit that the independent artist has had so far. Chance pulls in household names in rappers 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne to perfect this unbelievably hooky and upbeat decimation of the recording labels that have no point to really existing anymore. The performance on the Ellen Show was electric and Weezy absolutely has a vintage appearance.

7. Grown Up Fairy Tales- Restoration of American Idol ( Taylor Bennett)

On what was originally slated to be a Chance song, the Bennett brothers and Jeremih, kick it for the third track of Taylor's breakout Restoration of an American Idol. Mike WiLL Made-it provides a great backing for a song about growing up and life. Chance starts the track off with a bang and Taylor Bennett and Jeremih bring it home on arguably the best song of the project.

6. Prom Night- 10 Day

Off of his first full mixtape, Prom Night, is the essence of Chance the Rapper. As he explains his experience on his high school's prom night Chance offers many incredible lines like "this prom shit feel like the Grammy's yo" and a hook that makes it almost impossible for you to not feel happy while listening to it. Songs like this helped build the foundation for the Grammy wins and future phenomenal pieces.

5. Favorite Song- Acid Rap featuring Childish Gambino

Chance hooks up with Childish Gambino for the most catchy song off of his sophomore mixtape. The energetic beat and signature Chano flow without a doubt make this song great. Acid Rap really helped Chance take off and no doubt including a known artist such as Childish Gambino aided in that process. Both artists kill the mid tape track for sure.

4. Ultralight Beam- The Life of Pablo (Kanye West)

Early in 2016 The Life of Pablo was released and so was the rap verse of the year, not by the album's artist but by Chance. All due respect to Kanye West, but Chance absolutely outshines his idol on this track. In his verse, Lil Chano from the 79 makes it clear not to mess with him and that this is his time.

3. Cocoa Butter Kisses- Acid Rap featuring Vic Mensa & Twista

Fellow Chicago rappers Vic Mensa and Twista join Chance for this signature song that easily gets stuck in your head. "Cigarettes on cigarettes, my mama think I stank
I got burn holes in my hoodies, all my homies think it's dank
I miss my cocoa butter kisses
I miss my cocoa butter kisses" will just echo through your head after listening to this track as it is an undeniably catchy tune.

2. Finish Line/ Drown- Coloring Book featuring T-Pain, Kirk Franklin, Eryn Allen Kane, & Noname

The penultimate track of Coloring Book is my personal favorite as it is very much an emotional rollercoaster. It is the longest song of the project and starts off incredibly upbeat then transitions to a slower buildup. Finish Line/ Drown is very much a song that feels like a religious experience that keeps a smile on your face.

1. Sunday Candy- Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment featuring Jamila Woods

Chance fronts The Social Experiment for the best song that he has been involved in to this point. Simply put the highly optimistic and instrument-fueled ode is perfection. A very personal song about his grandmother by Chance is a both catchy and extremely energetic construction.
